Display Developments Come To The Rescue Of Penguin Books
Display Developments were approached by Penguin Books recently as they had an urgent requirement for book display cases. We were asked to produce a design for plastic display cases with plinths for their Waterstones shop displays and the cases needed to fit their standard display table size of 1600mm x 800mm which is used at all their retail displays.
Today Penguin has offices in fifteen countries - from Penguin US (formed in 1939) to Penguin Ireland (opened in 2003) - and keeps more than 5,000 different titles in print at any time. In the twenty-first century the Penguin Group can cater for every stage of a reader's lifetime, with books from Dorling Kindersley, Frederick Warne, Ladybird, Penguin, Puffin and Rough Guides, making Penguin the home of reading.
How We Helped Them
Display Developments specialise in bespoke plastic fabrication and were able to offer Penguin Books several options in terms of materials to meet their brief. Penguin Books chose our favoured option whereby the cases were manufactured using 6mm clear cast Perspex with standard mitred and cemented joints and the plinths were constructed using standard veneered MDF. We recommended utilising anti-slip matting underneath the cases to ensure that the plastic display cases didn’t move or slide on the tables.
Sara Glenn of Penguin Books was delighted with the overall effect. “Thanks for all your help with the display cases. They look great. We like them so much, you may be getting a repeat order!!”
